Thankfully we woke up to clear blue skies on boxing day! Our plan for the day was to watch the start of the Sydney to Hobart race, then to have a picnic on Clontarf beach.
After
a quick breakfast myself, Marcus and Martyn made our way down to Dobroyd point.
It was a
popular vantage point, but we managed to find a good spot with an amazing view
of the harbour.
The Sydney
to Hobart race takes place every year on Boxing day and is seen as a Australian
summertime tradition. Thousands gather to watch the yachts sail out of the
harbour across to the Tasman sea. The 682 mile course
is described as the most gruelling ocean race in the world.
It
was an incredible sight watching nearly a 100 boats set sail. It's
certainly impressive how they don't crash into one another!
After the race we then headed to Clontarf, where we spent the remainder of the day sunbathing, swimming and having a picnic! We both had a great boxing day!
